Meet Gaetano "Guy" Serra....
Getting to know me....
It is my general philosophy that the issues and discomfort that people face are due to practiced patterns that have become habitual, not that there is something "wrong" with who they are at their core.
I was born and raised in Queens, N.Y. For the past two years I was the Assistant Director of Clinical Services, and Mental Health Counselor/ Anger Management Specialist at Neuropsychologic Associates on Long Island, NY. I obtained a master of arts degree in psychology at Queens College as well as a aster of science degree in mental health counseling from L.I.U. Post.
I have experience working in agency, clinical, and private practice settings. I typically utilize traditional talk therapy techniques with a focus on cognitive behavioral strategies and have served patients in the areas of anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, chronic illness, executive functioning, obsessive compulsive disorder, mandated and non-mandated anger management, substance use, and acute stress.
Supplementally, I have experience in a higher education setting where I developed a program dedicated to serving college aged students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and related disorders.
As a specialist in Anger Management and Domestic Violence, Guy understands the complex nature of anger and aggression. He also understands how anger can traumatize a person's life.....turning it upside down. Untreated anger can lead to a wide variety of issues in a our lives- both personal and professional. Guy focuses on using proven strategies and techniques to treat anger-related issues.
On a personal note.....
I was born and raised in Queens, NY. As a recent transplant myself, I understand how hard it can be to relocate to a new area as an adult and I also understand the challenges related to being "new" in a community.
I enjoy reading, listening to music, and hiking in my spare time. I am not only a proponent of mindfulness when providing therapy, I also try and incorporate it throughout my day. I also believe that travel, although it may come with adjustment, can be an excellent source of insight into one’s self.
Clients can expect a relaxed, non-judgmental, and professional atmosphere when seeing me. All of our appointments would have a guiding structure and each session builds on the last.
