Meet Tanya
Tanya’s areas of focus are helping students improve their emotional, social, academic functioning by addressing possible anxiety, depression, trauma, behavior issues and social skills deficits. Key areas of focus: emotional & behavioral regulation, social and interpersonal skills, mental health challenges, academic and functional support, self esteem and personal growth. Collaboration with parents, families, teachers and school staff is essential in this role as a school-based mental health therapist.
Her approach to therapy is one of caring and acceptance, she uses cognitive behavior therapy, play therapy with children, dialectical behavior therapy teaching four skills, distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation and interpersonal communication, good for anyone!
Clients can expect to leave sessions with increased self-awareness, coping skills, a clearer perspective about themselves and their relationships. Takeaways often include enhanced emotional regulation, improved communication skills, a sense of being heard, and strategies for facing life's challenges.
When asked what she brings to the therapeutic process, Tanya responds:
I offer 18 years of experience as a licensed mental health therapist, while working full time for the school system. Twelve years of experience as a School Counselor, all levels k-12 for Wake County Public Schools, and 12 years as a Career Counselor at the middle and high school levels. I am married with two grown daughters who each have a daughter and a son, one is local and one is in Maine. I love to travel, cook and spend time with family and friends.
